Right-Wing Blog RedState Says Amputee Senator ‘Doesn’t Have a Leg to Stand On’

The popular conservative blog RedState raised more eyebrows than usual on Wednesday after publishing an article attacking Illinois Sen. Tammy Duckworth.

The piece from RedState slammed Duckworth’s defense of Miguel Perez, a combat veteran and illegal alien who was recently deported from the United States, by saying the senator’s argument “really doesn’t have a leg to stand on.”

Duckworth, a veteran, lost both her legs in Iraq in 2004 when the Black Hawk helicopter she was piloting was struck by a rocket propelled grenade. Today Duckworth uses prosthetic legs in the Senate.

Assuming it’s not an incredible coincidence, the word choice suggests the editors at RedState deliberately used the line to make fun of the double amputee war hero senator.

Reps for Duckworth and RedState did not immediately respond to request for comment from TheWrap.

It has not been a good week for RedState, which on Monday was forced to issue a lengthy and embarrassing correction in a report that suggested that Parkland shooting survivor (and UCLA reject) David Hogg was not really at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School during the shooting.

That, of course, is contradicted by actual video Hogg recorded while he was hiding in a closet during the massacre.

Fixing that debacle from author Sarah Rumpf required a lengthy correction and full apology.

“That was a grievous mistake. It was absolutely wrong. And I am sorry,” she wrote, “David Hogg was absolutely on campus during the shooting. I have zero doubt about that, and deeply regret the part I played in adding confusion and animosity to an already heated debate.”
