Fake snow fell on Kristen Stewart, but Mother Nature’s stormy weather set a pitch-perfect tone for Spike TV’s star-studded Scream Awards. The rare outdoor awards show had Mickey Rourke, Blake Lively, Rosario Dawson and many more getting in front of a costumed audience at the Greek on Saturday night. Honoring horror, sci-fi, and fantasy projects, the channel’s talent-booking svengalis (including Executive Producers Casey Patterson and Michael Levitt, and talent executive Amanda Ahmad) again delivered a lineup that trumps the talent roster, and arguably the commercial relevance, of corporate sibling MTV’s Video Music Awards held last month.
Actual Oscar winner Halle Berry opened the “Comic-con Oscars” that featured a reunion with Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd and the iconic time traveling DeLoreon on stage. The visual of Fox and Lloyd arriving together in tandem off-camera in the parking lot had some of the town’s most staid publicists rubber necking.
Although Bill Murray has vocally opposed a “Ghostbusters” sequel, he appeared in his iconic costume. As he exited stage left, producers applauded their coup while James Cameron was cutting VO a few steps away and Sigourney Weaver prepared to wedge herself in to a giant “egg” from “Alien.”
More than just 80’s nostalgia, stars of current and future fan-boy projects also took center stage. “Inception” writer/director Christopher Nolan entered amidst an exploding urban set that gave a taste of what this summer’s hit might have looked like in 3D. Later, Rainn Wilson promoted his upcoming starrer “Super” by fantasizing about “smashing the projectionist’s head in” while enduring the Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel movie “Life as We Know It.”
Over in the indoor-outdoor multi-level green room, Bob Weinstein checked in with his talent from next year’s “Scream 4 ”: heroine Emma Roberts, director Wes Craven, Neve Campbell, and David Arquette (making his first public appearance since a much-discussed phone interview on Howard Stern last Tuesday). Co-star Courteney Cox had never been scheduled to attend.
Advisory board members, including Tim Burton and “Star Trek” writer/ “Lost” co-creator Damon Lindelof helped pick honorees for the telecast that airs this Tuesday on Spike at 9PM.
Host Sienna Miller called Friday night’s chilly mist “British” as she opened Esquire House LA’s “Ultimate Bachelor Pad” with a benefit for an organization she represents, The International Medical Corps. Kate Bosworth, Aaron Eckhardt, John Legend, and “Transformers” producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura were amongst the firstto scope the pad’s rotating media room, human-flight simulator for sponsor Lufthansa, and other amenities inside the $18.9 million mansion that will host a month-long series of philanthropic events for generous donors and select invitees.
Miller and otherstook to the backyard podium to help raise the organization’s profile amongst peer groups like the Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders by delivering 93 cents of every dollar donated as direct aid to international medical crises.
Over at “Rain” in Las Vegas, CBS president Les Moonves, Anna Kendrick, and Aaron Paul got a special concert by Vampire Weekend at the launch party for video game sequel “Fallout: New Vegas ” on Saturday night. (Moonves serves on the board of the game’s distributor, Zenimax.)
Move Over Soho House…there’s a new Social Club on Sunset.
Puma popped up “Social Club LA” – a shop by day, party by night hospitality space in the spot that was formerly One Sunset (and before that, Barfly). The goal? Bring the social scene back to its offline roots with a teen clubhouse vibe, albeit one with complimentary Pink’s hot dogs and open bar tequila. On Wednesday’s opening night, guests played foosball with Audrina Patridge and ping pong with Joe Manganiello and Kyle Massey, while others sneaked cigarettes out back with Dominic Monaghan and Jeremy Piven. At left, Manganiello was king of the court.
