Patrick Dempsey Has ‘No Idea’ About ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Return

Actor seems to tell foreign magazine that he’s bailing on the series — his publicist begs to differ

Patrick Dempsey fans can breathe easy: Dr. McDreamy Isn't going anywhere. At least not just yet. Maybe.

The "Grey's Anatomy" actor sent shock waves through the world's hearts with a recent interview in Italian Vanity Fair, during which he seemed to declare that the upcoming eighth season of ABC's medical drama would find him hanging up his white coat and stethoscope.

"[Next season] will be my last one," Dempsey told the magazine. "For me it is ended.”

Dempsey went on to add that it would be a "bittersweet feeling" to leave the series, "[i]n the sense that has been a great history, a part of my life."

But despite the seemingly definitive nature of Demspey's comments, the actor's publicist claims that his words have been misinterpreted.

"He was referring to the fact that his contract is up at the end of next season and we have no idea what the future holds," the publicist said in a statement released to TheWrap.

The series has suffered from cast defections in recent years, with stars Katherine Heigl and T.R. McKnight departing and Ellen Pompeo reportedly eyeing the exit.

If Dempsey does decide to leave the show, perhaps he can jump ship to Spanish-language network Telemundo's version of the series, "A Corazon Abierto" ("An Open Heart").
