Paul McCartney paid heartfelt tribute to his former Wings bandmate Henry McCullough, who died Tuesday at age 72.

In a post on his official website, McCartney called McCullough “a super-talented musician with a lovely sense of humor.”

The former Beatle also singled out McCullough’s guitar solo on the 1973 Wings tune “My Love” as a highlight.

“I was very sad to hear that Henry McCullough, our great Wings guitarist, passed away today. He was a pleasure to work with, a super-talented musician with a lovely sense of humor,” McCartney wrote. “The solo he played on ‘My Love’ was a classic that he made up on the spot in front of a live orchestra. Our deepest sympathies from my family to his.”

McCullough, who also played with Spooky Tooth, among other groups, was asked to join Wings in 1971, spending two years in the band.

McCullough can also be heard on the classic Pink Floyd song “Money,” muttering, “I don’t know; I was really drunk at the time.”
