Phase 4 Films will release “Sushi Girl” on Ultraviolet and Premium VOD Nov. 27, as part of a multi-platform strategy that includes a theatrical run and then home entertainment.
This is one of the first films to debut on Ultraviolet, the cloud-based service backed by several major Hollywood studios.
Phase 4 will then release "Sushi Girl" in theaters Jan. 4 while Magnolia Home Entertainment will release it on DVD/Blu-ray, VOD, Redbox, Netflix and other platforms April 25. Phase 4 will also distribute the thriller in theaters and on home video in Canada in the first quarter 2013.
Directed by Kern Saxton and co-written by Saxton and Destin Pfaff, "Sushi Girl" follows an ex-con named Fish who goes out to celebrate with his former partners in crime on the night of his release. They opt for sushi, which they eat off the naked body of a girl. Everything unwinds from there.
Mark Hamill and Tony Todd star in the film, which was produced by Assembly Line’s Suren M. Seron, Neal Fischer, Pfaff and Saxton in assocation with Level Up Productions.
Phase 4 and Magnolia picked up North American rights to the film last August.
The filmmakers and the cast will announce the new release dates Saturday at the Comikaze Expo, Stan Lee’s comic-book centric convention in Los Angeles, where “Sushi Girl” will host both a panel and a fan screening.
