Piers Morgan expressed his outrage over the church shooting in Charleston on Thursday, tweeting, “Such a sickening outrage. Wake up America, your gun culture is disgusting.”
The British journalist did not stop there, posting a number of tweets from his official account critical of America’s fascination with firearms and the country’s longstanding history of gun violence.
“NRA logic: if only every young person in that bible study class had been armed with a gun too, it wouldn’t have happened,” Morgan wrote. “The #Charleston murderer was given a gun by his father as a 21st birthday gift in April. He used it to kill 9 people.”
Morgan continued his criticism of the NRA, writing, “Where are you today @NRA? Want to tell us the bible group should have all had guns too?”
Morgan also tweeted a picture of suspected Charleston shooter Dylann Roof alongside Adam Lanza, the man who infamously killed 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut in 2012.
“PREDICTION: Gun sales will soar in South Carolina this week. It’s America’s only response to mass shootings: more guns,” Morgan also wrote.
On Wednesday night, a white man entered the historic Emanuel AME church in Charleston, South Carolina. He reportedly sat in on a prayer meeting for an hour before opening fire, killing nine people including a state senator.
