Piers Morgan (Still) Taking Over for Larry King

Despite reports to the contrary, the “America’s Got Talent” judge is on track for the prized CNN slot

EXCLUSIVE

Depite reports to the contrary, Piers Morgan is taking over as Larry King's replacement — and an official announcement is expected early next week at the latest, TheWrap has learned.

TheWrap broke the story on July 30 that the "America's Got Talent" judgewill take over weeknights at 9 p.m. on CNN. On Wednesday, Bonnie Fuller's Hollywoodlife.com reported that Piers would not be taking the gig.

But an individual close to Morgan tells TV Hunter that those reports are "dead wrong" — and that an official announcement will appear by at least early next week.

HollywoodLife said Morgan told one of its reporters that it was "highly unlikely" he'd take the CNN job at an event for the launch of a new Paris Hilton perfume in Los Angeles on Tuesday night.

“That quite a big job to do,” HollywoodLife quoted Morgan as saying Tuesday night. “It’s the biggest news organization in the world. It’s highly unlikely that I’ll be taking over.”

The individual who spoke to TheWrap said Morgan was misinterpreted while being bombarded with questions about CNN as he headed into the perfume party.

The person said Morgan is merely completing paperwork on the deal.

UPDATE: The article that said Morgan isn't going to CNN has been pulled from Hollywoodlife.com.
