PilotWatch 2010: ‘Prime Suspect’ Pushed

NBC will take its time with the remake, waiting until at least summer to film as it hunts for the right lead

NBC is temporarily declaring "case closed" on its remake of "Prime Suspect."

The network Wednesday confirmed that it’s shelved plans to film "Suspect" this spring for a possible fall launch. The reason: It’s been unable to find the right actress to play the lead role, first made famous by Helen Mirren.

Rather than push forward with a compromise casting choice, NBC will instead move production to summer at the earliest. The casting crunch won’t be so tight then, with failed pilots (and possibly some series cancellations) freeing up a number of candidates.
