Pope Francis, not satisfied with his nearly 9 million Twitter followers, is expanding his social media presence by joining Instagram.
“I am beginning a new journey, on Instagram, to walk with you along the path of mercy and the tenderness of God,” he tweeted, garnering 10,000 retweets and 26,000 likes.
His newly created Instagram, @franciscus, already has 716,000 followers despite being only 6 hours old.
So far there are two photos of the Pope himself in prayer.
It’s the latest thoroughly modern move for the millenial-friendly Pope, who also recently made history by agreeing to appear in a movie, as himself, which will mark the film debut for any pope in the history of the Catholic Church.
