Portia de Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres: ‘We’re Not Having a Baby, or Are We?’ (Video)

Couple seemingly clear up baby rumors on “Ellen,” only to suggest that their whole discussion could be a ruse to keep it secret

“Scandal” star Portia de Rossi dropped by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” where the couple cleared up rumors that they were having a baby … or did they?

In the episode set to air Tuesday, the women talked about the tabloid stories gaining so much traction that people close to them have started feeling like maybe they’d been left out of something. “It would be so fun for everybody if we were,” de Rossi said of a pregnancy, but she insisted they were not expecting.

The latest twist in their tabloid lives came courtesy of Star magazine in September. According to the magazine, the divorce is off — probably just as legitimate a claim as the pregnancy one — and the couple is looking ahead to parenthood. DeGeneres was so annoyed by this cover story, she refused to show the magazine’s name on her show.

Everyone assumes that we really are having a baby, and we’re just not sharing it,” DeGeneres told de Rossi. “So we might be having a baby and we’re just not sharing it.”

“This is just one big act right now?” de Rossi asked. Could this be the greatest baby news con of all time? Probably not, but DeGeneres did leave the door tantalizingly open just a crack.

“We’re not having a baby,” she said definitively, but had to tease the camera a bit. “Or are we?” she added, before again reiterating. “No, we’re not.”

So they’re not. Probably.

DeGeneres also teased the scandal in a “hard-hitting” interview, where they covered tough questions like why de Rossi leaves her socks on the end of the bed, who’s going to die next on “Scandal,” and who should get the last word in an interview.

“The Ellen DeGeneres Show” airs weekdays in syndication.
