IFC is keeping it weird. The cable channel has renewed “Portlandia” for two more seasons.
Seasons 6 and 7 of the quirky Fred Armisen-Carrie Brownstein sketch comedy show will each consist of 10 half-hour episodes.
Co-creator and director Jonathan Krisel will continue to run the show through the renewal’s timeline.
“We are so excited to get to do more ‘Portlandia’ with IFC,” said Armisen and Brownstein in a joint statement. “Getting to work with Jon and our talented writers and crew, it really is our favorite thing in the world. Also, we get to spend more time in Portland!”
“Portland may be a place where young people go to retire, but IFC is not retiring ‘Portlandia,’” said Jennifer Caserta, IFC’s president. “And if you order a book from Toni and Candace at the Feminist Bookstore right now, it might even arrive by the time Season 7 rolls around.”
“Portlandia” may have a small cast but it has a huge bench of guest stars. Steve Buscemi, Vanessa Bayer, Ed Begley Jr., Jeff Goldblum, Kyle MacLachlan, Kumail Nanjiani, Jason Sudeikis, Gus Van Sant and Olivia Wilde have made recurring appearances.
Additionally, guest stars over the past five seasons have included Roseanne Barr, Selma Blair, Rose Byrne, Kirsten Dunst, Shepard Fairey, Greta Gerwig, Heather Graham, Matt Groening, Oscar the Grouch, Anna Gunn, Bill Hader, k.d. lang, Juliette Lewis, Justin Long, Jane Lynch, Natasha Lyonne, Aimee Mann, Penny Marshall, Sarah McLachlan, Seth Meyers, Bobby Moynihan, Martina Navratilova, Patton Oswalt, Aubrey Plaza, Parker Posey, Paul Reubens, Tim Robbins, Maya Rudolph, Andy Samberg, Paul Simon, Amber Tamblyn, Eddie Vedder, Kristen Wiig and more.
The show is executive produced by Lorne Michaels and produced by Broadway Video. Karey Dornetto and Graham Wagner serve as writers.
