President Obama on Boston Bombings: Perpetrators Will ‘Feel the Full Weight of Justice’

"We will find out who did this … and we will hold them accountable," said Obama

President Barack Obama addressed the bombings that left two dead and many more injured at the Boston marathon on Monday, saying that the perpetrators would "feel the full weight of justice."

During a brief statement, Obama said that the government is "continuing to monitor and respond to the situation as it unfolds ," and that "we still don't know who did this or why, and people should not jump to conclusions" before the facts are in.

However, he added, "But make no mistake: We will get to the bottom of this. We will find out who did this, and we'll find out why they did this. Any responsible individuals — any responsible groups — will feel the full weight of justice … we will find out who did this, and we will hold them accountable."

Obama also said that he had spoken to Congress, and that partisan concerns need to be put aside in light of the tragedy.

"On days like this there are no Republicans or Democrats; we are Americans united in concern for our fellow citizens," Obama stressed.

"The American people will say a prayer for Boston tonight, and [First Lady] Michelle [Obama] and I send out deepest thoughts and prayers to the families of the victims in the wake of this senseless loss," Obama added.

The president also addressed the emergency responders who arrived on the scene, saying,"It's a reminder that so many Americans serve and sacrifice on our behalf every single day, without regard to their own safety, in dangerous and difficult circumstances, and we salute all those who assisted and responded so quickly and professionally to this tragedy."
