ABC Family has ordered a pilot for drama “Famous in Love” from I. Marlene King, executive producer and co-showrunner of the network’s signature hit “Pretty Little Liars.”
The pilot, set to star actress Bella Thorne, is based on the novel by Rebecca Serle. Thorne will play Paige, a college senior thrust into stardom after auditioning for the lead role in a Hollywood blockbuster.
King and Serle are writing the pilot. Dan Farah and Miguel Arteta will executive produce with King. Serle will serve as co-executive producer.
The pilot is being produced by Long Lake Media, Farah Films and Carmina Productions, Inc. in association Warner Horizon Television.
“We could not be more excited to extend our relationship with hitmaker I. Marlene King,” Karey Burke, executive vice president, programming and development, said in a statement. “With ‘Famous In Love,’ Marlene takes us behind the scenes of young Hollywood to tell a sexy, soapy tale about what it’s like to make a movie — and fall in love — in LA.
“We are also thrilled to welcome the talented Bella Thorne to our network and cannot wait to get started on our next can’t-miss show.”
ABC Family announced last week that it will change its name to Freeform in January 2016.
