‘Pretty Little Liars’ Season 4 Winter Premiere Is Most-Tweeted Debut in TV History

The ABC Family show pulled in more than 1.3 million tweets on Tuesday

Tuesday’s season 4 winter debut of “Pretty Little Liars” was the most-tweeted premiere in TV history with more than 1.3 million tweets.

The tweets came from 473,000 contributors and peaked at a rate of 30,000 tweets per minute, the network said.

“Pretty Little Liars” has been the most-social show on TV in recent seasons. The ABC Family show actually accounts for the top five most-tweeted TV telecasts on record; Tuesday’s Season 4 second-half premiere ranks fourth.

Eight different episodes have amassed more than a million tweets.

Ratings-wise, at 8 p.m., “Pretty Little Liars” was the No. 1 TV telecast in its target demographic, females 12-34, and the top original series telecast across all cable in adults 18-49.

Jenn Deering Davis, co-founder of Union Metrics — an aggregator of social media metrics — said: “Over the past several years, ‘Pretty Little Liars’ has developed one of the strongest social strategies in the entertainment industry, producing tens of millions of tweets and increasing its Twitter presence to nearly 2 million followers since 2010.”

She added, citing Tuesday’s total-day numbers: “Yesterday’s premiere was no exception to the show’s impressive track record, with more than 1.6 million tweets posted from 680,000 different Twitter users, generating a staggering 2.2 billion impressions.”
