‘Prince of Persia’ Captures DVD Rental/Sales Crown

Amanda Seyfried’s “Letters to Juliet” takes second and third place on the rental and sales end

“Prince of Persia” swashbuckled its way to the top of the movie rental and sales charts. The Jake Gyllenhaal action film beat back “Letters to Juliet” to claim first place. The Amanda Seyfried romance was the second best-selling disc and the third most rented film.

“Persia”s’ debut knocked “Killers” down a peg. In its second week of release, the action romance fell back to second place on the rental chart and sixth place on the sales end.

Also debuting last week, Queen Latifah’s box office bomb “Just Wright” was the sixth most rented disc, but failed to break into the top ten list of best-selling DVDs.

In anticipation of several series premieres, box sets of hit shows continued to show their DVD muscle. Gleeks made the first season of “Glee” the fifth best-selling disc. Part two of the show’s first season, which was originally halved when it was released on DVD, also hit shelves last week. Those tuneful New Directions members propelled volume two to eighth place.

Other television shows making their DVD debut included the sixth season of “Grey’s Anatomy,” the fifth season of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” and the second season of “Fringe,” which captured fourth, ninth and tenth place respectively.

Next week brings “Robin Hood,” Russell Crowe’s moderately successful stab at recapturing his “Gladiator” stride.
