During his hospitalization, Travis underwent an emergency neurosurgical operation after suffering a stroke while being weaned from his life-support system.

Though the singer has made headlines in recent months for multiple alcohol-related incidents — including being arrested on suspicion of DWI while naked — Dr. Michael Mack, who treated Travis, said that Travis' heart ailment wasn't related to alcohol abuse.

"From the appearance on echocardiograms, which are images of his heart, this is not the appearance of either drugs or alcohol causing the heart condition," Mack said. "Mr. Travis does have a family history of cardiomyopathy and it is more likely related to that."
