Ratings: Fox Animated Comedies Take Hit as NBC Wins With Football

"Simpsons," "Family Guy" and other Animation Domination entries slide after four-week hiatus

Fox's Animation Domination slate returned after four weeks to an an across-the-board slide in the ratings Sunday night, while "Sunday Night Football" rose to give NBC a ratings win, according to preliminary numbers.

While the nature of live sports renders the network's numbers approximate, NBC currently holds first place in the advertiser-cherished 18-49 demographic with a 6.1 rating/15 share and in total viewers with 15.9 million. Following three consecutive episodes of "Football Night in America" from 7 to 8:30 p.m., which posted a 2.2/6, 4.5/8 and 5.8/14 respectively, the Cowboys-Falcons game gave "Sunday Night Football" a 16 percent boost over last week, drawing a 7.3/17 and attracting 18.6 million total viewers.

CBS drew second place in ratings and total viewers with a 3.3/8 and 13.7 million total viewers. While the network's numbers are also skewed due to live sports, NFL overrun at 7 posted the night's highest numbers for an individual program with an 8.5/23 and 26.7 million total viewers. "60 Minutes" at 7:30 posted a 3.8/10 and 16.7 million total viewers, while "The Amazing Race" at 8:30 pulled even with last week for a 2.5/6 and drew 10.3 million total viewers. "The Good Wife" at 9:30 dipped slightly to a 1.7/4 and grabbed 9.7 million total viewers, while "The Mentalist" at 10:30 inched up to a 1.9/5 and had 9.5 million total viewers.

ABC grabbed third place in ratings and total viewers with a 2.3/6 and 7.2 million. "America's Funniest Home Videos" at 7 jumped 31 percent to a 1.7/4 and drew 7 million total viewers, while "Once Upon a Time" at 8 received a 3.5/8 and drew 10 million total viewers. "Revenge" the following hour took a 2.6/6 with 7.7 million total viewers, while "666 Park Avenue" at 10 slipped 13 percent to a series low with a 1.4/4 and had 4 million total viewers.

Fox came in fourth in ratings and total viewers with a 2.0/5 and 4.4 million, with its comedy slate slipping from where it left off four weeks ago. While Fox's numbers are approximate from 7 to 8 due to live sports, NFL overrun combined with a "Simpsons" repeat at 7 drew a 1.5/4 and 3.7 million total viewers, while NFL overrun combined with "The Cleveland Show" at 7:30 took a 1.9/5 — down 14 percent from "Cleveland"'s season premiere Oct. 7 — and had 4 million total viewers. "The Simpsons" at 8 was down 16 percent from its last original four weeks ago, taking a 2.6/6 and pulling 5.6 million total viewers. "Bob's Burgers" at 8:30 slid 22 percent to a 1.8/4 and took 4 million total viewers, while "Family Guy" dropped 26 percent to a 2.5/6 and drew 5 million total viewers. "American Dad" at 9:30 fell 27 percent for a 1.9/4 and had 4 million total viewers.
