Ratings: ‘Golden Boy’ Less Than Golden, But CBS Wins Night

Preview of "Golden Boy" improves over last week's episode of "Vegas," but falls short of the "Vegas" series premiere

A special preview of the new CBS drama "Golden Boy" got the series off to a soft start, but an episode of the top-rated "NCIS" still gave the network a ratings win on Tuesday night, according to preliminary numbers.

"Golden Boy" — which chronicles the rise of New York City's youngest police commissioner — drew a 1.8 rating in the key 18-49 demographic and had 10.5 million total viewers at 10 p.m. Compared to last week's airing of "Vegas," "Golden Boy" was up 20 percent in the demo, and also improved over last week's total viewership. (The "Golden Boy" premiere was, however, down 28 percent in the demo from September's series premiere of "Vegas.") "Golden Boy" will premiere in its normal Friday at 9 p.m. timeslot March 8.

"NCIS" at 8 was the night's top-rated and most-watched program of the night with a 3.4/10 and 20.5 million total viewers. "NCIS: LA" the following hour drew a 2.9/8, up slightly from last week, and had 16.8 million total viewers. All told, CBS averaged a 2.7/8 in the demo and 15.9 million total viewers, taking top honors in both categories.

ABC tied Fox for second place in ratings with a 1.7/5 and took second place outright in total viewers with 5.8 million.
