Ratings: ‘Good Morning America’ Tops ‘Today’ By Biggest Viewership Margin In Over 20 Years

The ABC program wins its first Q2 since 1994, posting largest total-viewership advantage over its NBC rival in more than 21 years

"Good Morning America" is on a roll.

The ABC morning show took first place in the morning-news race, marking its first win in the key 25-54 news demo for a second quarter in 19 years — and the second consecutive quarter it's won this year.

In a blow to its NBC competitor "Today," "GMA" also achieved its largest total viewer advantage over "Today" in more than 21 years, besting the NBC offering by an average 789,000 total viewers during the quarter.

During the second quarter of 2013, "Good Morning America" took first place in the demo with 2.017 million viewers, and also grabbed the gold in total viewers with 5.501 million. The quarter is the first time it's won a second quarter in the demo since 1994, and "GMA's" first 2Q total viewer win since 1995.

"Today," meanwhile, averaged 1.922 in the demo and 4.712 million total viewers for the quarter.

Compared to the second quarter of 2012, "Good Morning America" was up 11 percent in total viewers and 5 percent in the demo. Versus the first quarter of this year, "GMA" was down slightly in the demo, but up in total viewers.
