Ratings: ‘Idol’ Gets Gaga Bump; ‘Better With You’ Receives Big Boost

The “Born This Way” singer’s mentoring stint leads Fox’s singing competition to a 5 percent increase

A Lady Gaga-fortified "American Idol" results episode received a bump in the ratings on Wednesday while ABC's "Better With You" experienced a nearly 20 percent boost over last week, according to preliminary numbers.

Fox's "Idol" at 8 p.m., on which the "Born This Way" singer mentored the music-biz hopefuls, had a 5 percent boost in the adults 18-49 demographic over the previous week's episode (which was down 10 percent from the week before), raking in a 6.9/20 in the demo and 22.3 million total viewers. That momentum failed to carry over to the ailing Christian Slater comedy "Breaking In," which at 9:30 performed flat with last week, taking a 2.4/.6 in the demo and 7.6 million total viewers.

ABC had a night of improved numbers, with "Better With You" showing the most pronounced boost. "The Middle" at 8 had a 5 percent uptick from last week with a 2.1/7 in the demo and 7.1 million total viewers. "Better With You" at 8:30 jumped 19 percent over the previous week, grabbing a 1.9/6 in the demo and 5.9 million total viewers. "Modern Family" at 9 was also up, 8 percent, with a 4.2/11 in the demo and 10.1 million total viewers. "Cougar Town" at 9:30 clawed its way to a 9 percent increase, receiving a 2.4/6 in the demo and 6.1 million total viewers. Back-to-back episodes of "Happy Endings" performed flat with last week's showings, taking a 1.7/4 in the demo at 10 and 1.4/4 for the 10:30 episode. (The airings received 4.2 million and 3.4 million total viewers, respectively.)

NBC's ratings were down, with "Minute to Win It" at 8 slipping 10 percent, taking a 0.9/3 in the demo and 3 million total viewers. A "Minute" repeat aired the following hour, with a 1.1/3 in the demo and 3.5 million total viewers. "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" closed out the night at 10, dropping 8 percent with a 2.4/6 in the demo and 7.9 million total viewers.

CBS had an evening of minor ups and downs, with "Survivor" at 8 taking a 3 percent dip with a 3.0/9 in the demo and 10.4 million total viewers. "Criminal Minds" the following hour was up 3 percent with a 3.3/9 in the demo and 13 million total viewers. Its spinoff, "Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior" at 10 dipped 5 percent versus last week, with a 2.1/6 in the demo and 9 million total viewers.
