Ratings: Yep, Fireworks on TV Wins the Night

Macy’s patriotic pyrotechnics show on NBC dominates the night with a four-year high in adults 18-49

Americans must have felt patriotic Monday: "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular" took the night's top ratings and showed a dramatic increase over last year, according to preliminary numbers.

The fireworks show on NBC at 9 received a 2.1 rating/7 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, a 50 percent increase over last year's fireworks show and a four-year high in the demo, and 8.6 million total viewers (which represented an 11-year high in total viewership). An encore presentation the following hour took the evening's second-highest ratings, garnering a 1.4/5 in the demo and 5.1 million total viewers. A repeat of "America's Got Talent" began the network's primetime slate at 8 p.m.

CBS aired the Boston Pops Fireworks show at 10, following a roster of repeats. The Pops had a 1.1/4 in the demo, up 22 percent over last year.

ABC and Fox ran repeats Monday.
