Ratings: NBC Wins With Sochi Closing, But Drops 40 Percent From Vancouver

CBS’ “The Amazing Race” has its lowest premiere ever

NBC closed out the 2014 Winter Olympics on Sunday with a win — but was down from Vancouver’s final-night rating in 2010.

For CBS, “The Amazing Race” had its lowest premiere ever against the Sochi ceremony and delayed Daytona 500 coverage. It started 13 minutes late due to the golf coverage that preceded it running long.

NBC was first in ratings with a 2.9 rating/8 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and first in viewers with an average of 13.5 million, according to preliminary numbers.

For NBC, “Winter Olympics 2013: Sochi Gold” at 7 p.m. got a 2.6/8 — down 46 percent from “Vancouver Gold” — and 12.6 million viewers. The closing ceremonies at 8:30 had a 3.3/8. It was the highest-rated show of the night, but was down 40 percent from Vancouver. It also had 15.3 million viewers, the most of the night.

The closing ceremonies for Torino, which like Sochi had a time delay, had a 3.8. This time around, the closing ceremonies ran six minutes into the network’s “Growing Up Fisher” premiere, which intially got a 2.1/6 and 9.4 million viewers. A more reliable, time-adjusted “Fisher” number will be in shortly. The post-Games “Fisher” timeslot was down 57 percent versus 2010’s “Marriage Ref” premiere.

Fox was second in ratings with a 2.2/6 and in viewers with 7 million viewers. The Daytona 500 followed reruns, though those numbers were not yet available.

ABC was third in ratings with a 1.3/4 and in viewers with 5.1 million. The network aired reruns and a movie special.
