Ratings: ‘Newsroom’ Returns on Par With Series Premiere; ‘True Blood’ Hits Season High

"The Newsroom" ticks up from last year's series premiere with 2.2 million total viewers

HBO's "The Newsroom" returned for its second season slightly improving on its series premiere last year on Sunday night, while "True Blood" hit a season high.

The Season 2 premiere of Aaron Sorkin's "The Newsroom," which stars Jeff Daniels and Emily Mortimer, aired at 10 p.m. Sunday, drawing 2.2 million total viewers. That's a 4 percent uptick from last year's series premiere.

Over two plays for the evening, "The Newsroom" drew 2.6 million total viewers.

Meanwhile, "True Blood" at 9 grabbed 4.5 million total viewers on Sunday, making it the most-watched episode of the season. The episode accumulated 5.5 million total viewers.

The vampire series was renewed for Season 7 on Monday.
