Ratings: ‘The Paul Reiser Show’ Drops, ‘American Idol’ Still Tops

Former “Mad About You” star’s latest venture follows up its rough start with a decline in the ratings

Paul Reiser is bound to be mad about Thursday night’s ratings.

After landing the lowest ratings for an in-season comedy premiere in NBC’s history for its debut last week, “The Paul Reiser Show” slid further in the ratings for its second episode, according to preliminary numbers.

NBC’s evening started out with a bright note with “Community” at 8, which scored a 1.5 rating/5 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, a 7 percent uptick from the previous week’s performance, and 3.2 million total viewers. “Reiser” followed at 8:30 with 0.9/3 in the demo, an 18 percent drop from last week’s premiere, and 2.5 million total viewers. “The Office” at 9 came down from last week’s Will Ferrell bump, scoring a 3.3/9 in the demo, down 15 percent from last week, with 6.8 million total viewers. “Parks and Recreation” at 9:30 and “30 Rock” at 10 performed flat compared to the previous week, with 2.5/7 and 2.2/6 in the demo, respectively. (The flat performance of "30 Rock" comes despite the fact that last night's episode was a star-packed, 100th show extravaganza.)

The evening, of course, belonged to Fox’s “American Idol” results show at 8, which took the night’s top ratings with a 5.6/18 in the demo and 19.6 million total viewers. “Bones” in the following hour had a 3.2/9 in the demo and 11 million total viewers.

ABC aired repeats, with “Winter Wipeout” at 8 taking 1.3/4 in the demo and 4.7 million total viewers, “Grey’s Anatomy at 9 scoring 1.2/3 in the demo and 3.8 million total viewers, and “Private Practice” the following hour nabbing 0.8/2 in the demo and 2.7 million total viewers.

CBS also went the rerun route throughout its primetime roster. At 8, a previously aired episode of “The Big Bang Theory” brought in 1.8/6 in the demo and 7 million total viewers. A “Rules of Engagement” repeat at 8:30 took 1.5/5 in the demo and 5.5 million total viewers, while “CSI” at 9 had 1.6/5 in the demo and 8.4 million total viewers. “The Mentalist” rounded out the night the following hour with 2.1/6 in the demo and 10.9 million total viewers.
