Ratings: ‘Secret Life’ Smashes Records for ABC Family

The Disney network’s Monday dramas almost beat out NBC’s ”Heroes“ as teens flock to their return

Ratings for the season debuts of ABC Family’s "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" and "Make It Or Break It" are in — and it looks like cable’s awesome 2009 will continue in 2010.

"Life" notched huge numbers in ABCF’s target audiences, attracting a network-best 3 million viewers 12-34 and teens (1.6 million). In adults 18-49, the 2.12 million score beat out TNT’s "Men of a Certain Age" and FX’s "Nip/Tuck" as the biggest debut in the demo for this season.

Overall, "Life" was seen by 4.5 million viewers. That’s within the spitting distance of the just under 5 million tally for NBC’s two-hour "Heroes."

At 9 p.m., the "Life" lead-in helped "Make It" earn series highs in folks 12-34 (1.7 million), teens (1 million) and overall viewers (2.7 million). The dropoff from "Life" was pretty darn big, however, with "Make It" losing more than 40 percent of its lead-in.
