Ratings: ‘Survivor’ Hits Low With Premiere; Fox Wins Night With ‘Idol’

"CSI" slides to a series low

CBS's "Survivor" premiered its new season with its lowest premiere numbers ever on Wednesday night, while Fox's "American Idol" dipped slightly bust still pushed the network to an overall win for the night, according to preliminary numbers.

Fox, which ran "Idol" throughout its primetime slate, took first place in the key 18-49 demographic with a 4.3 rating/12 share — down 7 percent from last week's "Idol" performance — and in total viewers with 13.4 million.

ABC drew second place in ratings and third in total viewers with a 2.2/6 and 6.8 million. "The Middle" at 8 p.m. dropped 17 percent to a 1.9/6, a season low for the series, and drew 7.6 million total viewers, while "The Neighbors" at 8:30 posted a 1.7/5 and drew 5.9 million total viewers. "Modern Family" at 9 inched up to a 3.8/10 with 10 million total viewers, and "Suburgatory"' at 9:30 climbed 10 percent to a 2.2/6. It had 6 million total viewers. "Nashville" at 10 ticked up to a 1.8/5 and had 5.7 million total viewers.

CBS took third in ratings and second in total viewers with a 2.1/6 and 8.5 million. The season premiere of "Survivor" at 8 posted a 2.4/7 — down 23 percent from its last spring premiere, and the series' lowest-rated premiere — and took 9 million total viewers. Following a repeat of "The Big Bang Theory" at 9:30, "CSI" at 10 slid 13 percent to a series low of 2.1/6 and took 9.1 million total viewers.

NBC came in fourth in ratings and total viewers with a 1.5/4 and 5.4 million. "Whitney" at 8 drew a 1.2/4 and 3.6 million total viewers, while "Guys With Kids" at 8:30 dropped 17 percent to a series low of 1.0/3 and drew 2.9 million total viewers. "Law & Order: SVU" at 9 inched up to a 1.6/4 with 6.3 million total viewers, while "Chicago Fire" the following hour ran even with last week for a 1.9/5 an had 6.6 million total viewers.
