Ratings: Teen Choice Awards Lose to NBC Repeats

Awards show down in both key measures year-to-year

The Teen Choice Awards on Fox were down from last year, with Sunday night’s telecast losing out to repeats of “American Ninja Warrior” and “Hollywood Game Night” on NBC, according to Nielsen estimates.

At 8 p.m ET, “Hollywood Game Night” managed 1.9 million viewers and a 0.5 rating compared to Teen Choice’s 1.7 million viewers and 0.5 rating for that hour. At 9, “American Ninja Warrior” got 2.3 million viewers and a 0.7 rating, while Teen Choice got 2 million and a 0.6 rating.

The two-hour awards show averaged 1.9 million viewers from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., along with a 0.6 rating in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic. Last year, the show averaged 2.6 million viewers and a 0.8 rating.

ABC won the night in total viewers with 5.9 million and tied for first in the key demo with a 1.1 rating. A repeat of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” aired at 7 p.m. ET. At 8, “Celebrity Family Feud” got 7.2 million viewers and a 1.4 rating. “The $100,000 Pyramid” scored 6.5 million viewers and a 1.2 rating at 9. “Match Game” closed out at 10 with 5.4 million viewers and a 1.1 rating.

CBS finished second in total viewers with 5.6 million and tied for first in the demo with a 1.1 rating. “60 Minutes” got 8.1 million viewers and a 1.2 rating at 7 p.m. ET. “Big Brother” followed at 8 with 7.2 million viewers and a 1.5 rating. A repeat of “Madam Secretary” aired at 9. “BrainDead” aired at 10 with 2.9 million viewers and a 0.5 rating.

NBC came in third with 2.8 million viewers and a 0.6 rating. A repeat of “Dateline NBC” aired at 7 p.m. ET, followed by “Hollywood Game Night” at 8 and “American Ninja Warrior” at 9. A second repeat of “American Ninja Warrior” aired at 10.

Fox finished fourth in total viewers with 1.6 million and tied for fourth in the demo with a 0.5 rating. Repeats of “The Simpsons” and “Bob’s Burgers” aired at 7 p.m. ET and 7:30, followed by the Teen Choice Awards at 8.

Univision finished fifth in total viewers with 1.5 million and tied for fourth in the demo with a 0.5 rating.

The CW finished sixth in total viewers with 934,000 and seventh in the demo with a 0.2 rating, airing only local programming.

Telemundo finished seventh in total viewers with 881,000 but sixth in the demo with a 0.3 rating.
