Game 2 between the San Francisco Giants and Detroit Tigers easily took the ratings crown Thursday night. It had a 7.8 rating/12 share in the advertiser-friendly 18-49 demographic, a 3 percent improvement over Game 1, and drew 12.3 million total viewers, which put it slightly ahead of Game 1's 12.2 million total viewers.

But while Game 2 inched up from Game 1's numbers, it still fell short of Game 2 in 2011 between the St, Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers, which received an 8.9/14 and averaged 14.3 million viewers.

Game 1 of last year's World Series drew an 8.7/14 and an average 14.2 million total viewers.
