‘Real Housewives of Melbourne’ to Debut on Bravo Sundays (Video)

The international adaptation of Bravo’s hit reality format arrives to the U.S.

In case you’ve missed the promos already running on Bravo, the cable channel has acquired “The Real Housewives of Melbourne.” It will air Sundays at noon starting this weekend.

The premiere episode will be available early on BravoTV.com, Video-On-Demand and the Bravo Now site beginning Friday, August 1.

It couldn’t have been too hard for Bravo to “acquire” the series as it was produced by Matchbox Pictures, part of Bravo’s parent company NBCUniversal International Television Production and distributed in the US by NBCUniversal Television.

“The Real Housewives of Melbourne” follows six successful socialites over the course of its 12-episode first season, which will end with a two-episode reunion special. It has already been renewed for a second season on Australia’s Arena channel.

Bravo is consistently finding ways around former executive Andy Cohen‘s 2011 announcement that it will not produce more new “Real Housewives” franchises after cancelled D.C. and ratings-challenged Miami.

“Ladies of London,” “Blood, Sweat and Heels,” even “Married to Medicine” can be called knockoffs of the “Real Housewives” premise. It has also produced several spinoffs from the “Real Housewives” franchise and now it can import these international editions.
