Reality Star Nicole Richie Planning Comedy Series for ABC

Former “Simple Life” star developing a half-hour project at the network. Jamie Tarses is one of the producers.

Socialite and ex-reality star Nicole Richie has a new career in mind: TV comedy star.

ABC is developing a half-hour, single-camera comedy that will be based loosely on her own life, according to Daily Variety. Daisy Gardner ("Californication") is writing the pilot script, while Warren Bell ("According to Jim") and Jamie Tarses are set to executive produce.

The untitled project will have Richie playing "a professional woman with complicated family relation-ships (who’s) struggling to figure out what role she’ll take as her life and her family evolve," Variety said. Sony Pictures Television is producing.

Richie is no stranger to primetime. She cemented her fame as co-star of the Fox reality/semi-scripted comedy "The Real Life." She’s also done acting gigs on NBC’s "Chuck" and ABC’s "8 Simple Rules."
