Rebekah Brooks, a former top News Corp. executive, was arrested early Tuesday morning in a still widening police investigation into phone hacking at the media company's UK tabloids.
Brooks, her husband Charlie, and four other people were detained, according to BBC News.
In a statement, Metropolitan Police did not give the names of any of the individuals arrested, saying, "All six – five men and one woman – were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, contrary to the Criminal Law Act 1977."

It is not clear who the other individuals were, but the Metropolitan police describe them as a 39 year old man, a 46 year old man, a 38 year old man, and a 48 year old man.
Brooks and her husband were arrested in their Oxfordshire home; the other arrests came in Hampshire, Hertfordshire, West London and East London.
All six are being interviewed by the police.
Brooks resigned last summer as chief of News International, a division of News Corp. responsible for the tabloid News of the World.
A former confidant of News Corp. chief Rupert Murdoch, Brooks became engulfed in a massive phone hacking scandal after evidence emerged that News of the World journalists bribed officials and intercepted voice mails of news targets.
She was also arrested by Scotland Yard last July on charges of conspiring to intercept communications and corruption allegations. She was later released on bail.
