Reese Witherspoon and her Pacific Standard production company are reteaming with Nicole Kidman and her company Blossom Films for the film rights to Liane Moriarty‘s new novel “Truly Madly Guilty,” an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
The book, which has topped the New York Times best-seller list for two weeks now, follows three married couples in Australia who attend a backyard barbecue that goes horribly wrong.
Witherspoon and Kidman will produce with Pacific Standard’s Bruna Papandrea and Blossom Film’s Per Saari.
Both companies are currently in postproduction on the HBO limited series “Big Little Lies,” based on Moriarty’s 2014 novel of the same name.Witherspoon’s “Wild” collaborator Jean-Marc Vallee is directing “Big Little Lies.” Cast members include Alexander Skarsgard, Shailene Woodley, James TupperAdam Scott,Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz, Kathryn Newton, Hong Chau and Santiago Cabrera.
David E. Kelley wrote the script, which follows three mothers of kindergarteners whose seemingly perfect lives unravel to the point of murder.
Other titles by Moriarty include “The Hypnotist’s Love Story” and “The Husband’s Secret.”
