Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon is attached to star in and produce “Tink,” a live-action Tinker Bell movie in development at Disney, which is already developing a separate project under the same title with Elizabeth Banks, an individual familiar with the project told TheWrap.

Victoria Strouse (“Finding Dory”) wrote the script, and while details of the project remain under wraps, the film is expected to explore the “untold story” behind the character.

As first depicted as a minor, non-speaking character in J.M. Barrie’s “Peter Pan” play, Tinker Bell is Peter’s fairy sidekick who eventually became one of Disney’s most famous characters.

Witherspoon will produce the film with her Pacific Standard partner Bruna Papandrea. The duo recently produced “Wild” and “Gone Girl.”

Witherspoon currently stars alongside Sofia Vergara in “Hot Pursuit,” and she is slated to star in the astronaut drama “Pale Blue Dot” and Alexander Payne‘s comedy “Downsizing.” She’s represented by CAA, LBI Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson.
