Renée Zellweger Plays a Dangerous Game in Netflix’s ‘What/If’ Teaser (Video)

Anthology series debuts on Netflix in May

Netflix has released a teaser for its upcoming anthology series “What/If” — and from the looks of it, everyone is just a pawn in Renée Zellweger’s chess game.

“What if I made you an offer too extraordinary to refuse?” Zellweger says in the teaser. “For anything, and anyone, to be yours for the taking. The players are all arranged. What would you risk for a chance to have it all?”

She’s later shown dangling a pawn and then dropping it, revealing a board of toppled-over chess pieces.

Premiering May 24, “What/If” stars Zellweger as Anne, described as a mysterious woman who makes a lucrative but dubious offer to a cash-strapped pair of San Francisco newlyweds. The 10-episode neo-noir social thriller explores what happens when acceptable people start doing unacceptable things, with each season looking at a different tale of morality, per Netflix.

The cast also includes Jane Levy (“Castle Rock,” “Suburgatory”), Louis Herthum (“Westworld”) Blake Jenner (“American Animals,” “Glee”), Samantha Ware (“Glee”), Keith Powers (“Famous in Love”), Daniella Pineda (“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”), Juan Castano (“Shades of Blue”), John Clarence Stewart (“Marvel’s Luke Cage”) and Dave Annable (“Brothers & Sisters”).

Mike Kelley (“Revenge,” “Swingtown”) serves as showrunner and writer. He will also executive produce with Melissa Loy for Page Fright, Alex Gartner, Charles Roven for Atlas Entertainment, Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke for Compari Entertainment. Jackie Levine of Compari Entertainment will be co-executive producer.

This is the “Bridget Jones’s Diary” star’s first major foray into television since her acting debut in the 1992 made-for-TV movie “A Taste for Killing” on USA.
