Rhys Ifans is taking to the small screen in a big way.

"The Amazing Spider-Man" star Ifans, who's signed on for a recurring role in the upcoming season of CBS's "Elementary," has now also joined the Showtime pilot "Trending Down," co-starring alongside Philip Seymour Hoffman and Kathryn Hahn.

The pilot, described as "a darkly comic examination of what it means to matter," revolves around Thom Payne (Hoffman), a man facing his own obsolescence after his advertising agency is taken over. Ifans will play Jonathan Clow, Payne's boss.

The pilot, which is created, written and executive produced by author and "This American Life" producer Shalom Auslander and will be directed by John Cameron Mitchell, begins filming on the East Coast in the fall.
