Ridley Scott in Talks to Direct Disney Adaption ‘Merlin Saga’

Story will follow young Merlin before he becomes the mentor for King Arthur

Ridley Scott is in talks to direct “The Merlin Saga” for Disney, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

“The Merlin Saga” will be based on the T.A. Barron books and follows the origin story of a young Merlin who goes on to become the mentor for King Arthur.

Scott’s production banner Scott Free is set to produce alongside Gil Netter, while Philippa Boyens will write the screenplay.

Disney is also working on a live-action project titled “Sword in the Stone,” on which Scott has also met with executives regarding.

The story of Merlin and Arthur was brought to the big screen last year in Guy Ritchie’s “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword,” starring Charlie Hunnam, Jude Law and Eric Bana.

The last project to focus on the legendary wizard, however, was NBC miniseries “Merlin,” starring Sam Neill.

Scott’s most recent release, “All the Money in the World,” is currently in theaters after the director did last-minute reshoots to replace Kevin Spacey with Christopher Plummer.
