“The Voice” has added Rihanna as a “key adviser” to all the judges on the upcoming season of NBC’s hit singing competition, the network announced Thursday.

Gwen Stefani is returning as a judge on the new season, along with Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Pharrell Williams. Carson Daly will host once more.

Rihanna previously appeared on the show as a performer, singing her song “Diamonds” on the Season 3 finale.

“The Voice” averaged a 4 rating/12 share in the key adults 18-49 demographic and 14 million total viewers with its regular Monday and Tuesday editions in “most current” results from Nielsen Media Research, which include Live + 7 Day numbers where available. “The Voice” was both the No. 1 Monday series and the No. 1 Tuesday series on the Big 4 networks last season in the main demo.

“The Voice” is a presentation of MGM’s United Artists Media Group, Talpa Media USA Inc. and Warner Horizon Television. The series was created by John de Mol, who serves as executive producer along with Mark Burnett, Audrey Morrissey, Marc Jansen and Lee Metzger.

“The Voice” Season 9 premieres Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
