Ringo Starr, a Friggin’ Beatle, Plays ‘Yellow Submarine’ on Jimmy Fallon’s Classroom Instruments (Video)

The Roots can play anything — on anything

Paul McCartney joined Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show” on Monday, which was technically the first night of the 2019-20 TV season. The following evening, competitor Jimmy Fallon hosted the Wings frontman’s old Beatles bandmate, Ringo Starr, and somehow convinced him to play “Yellow Submarine” on classroom instruments.

House band The Roots was there, of course, to make sure the whole thing didn’t go under(water, get it? That’s a submarine pun.).

Watch the video above.

Below is the makeshift band and their even makeshift-er assignments.

Ringo Starr: vocals, drums
Jimmy Fallon: vocals, Casio keyboard, wood block, kazoo
Questlove: clappers, submarine shaker
Kamal Gray: xylophone
James Poyser: melodica
Captain Kirk: ukulele
Mark: kazoo: orange shaker
Tuba Gooding Jr.: kazoo, submarine shaker
Stro: bongos
Black Thought: tambourine

Props to the “Tonight Show” animation department.
