Rob Lowe Has a Face/Off in ‘The Grinder’ Cold Open (Exclusive Video)

Show within a show results in philosophical discussions on Fox sitcom

Rob Lowe goes to great lengths to stay humble in the newest show-within-a-show cold open of Fox’s “The Grinder.”

In the exclusive clip (above), a wigged lawyer delivers the winning argument before ripping off his own face, to reveal Lowe’s Mitch Grinder.

“I didn’t study under Michard Grinder, I am Michard Grinder,” he says.

Why the elaborate hoax? Humility. “I needed to escape the shadow of myself,” Grinder goes on. “I got tired of winning simply because I am the Grinder.”

Offscreen, as the Sanderson household watches on, Fred Savage‘s Stewart is still the only one who seems befuddled by the show that made his brother Dean a star. So he was just walking around with a fake face on?

“Maybe we all walk around with fake faces on,” Dean retorts. Touche.

The new episode of “The Grinder” also features guest star turns from comedian Nathan Fielder and NASCAR driver Carl Edwards.

“The Grinder” airs Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m. ET on Fox.
