Robbie Amell Trains a ‘Dog with the Heart of a Marine’ in First ‘Max’ Trailer (Video)

The film is based on a true story

Warner Bros. released the first trailer for “Max” starring Robbie Amell, Thomas Haden Church, and Josh Wiggins, on Wednesday.

The film, which is based on a true story, stars Amell as a US Marine who is killed while fighting in Afghanistan. His trained service dog, Max, is sent stateside and adopted by the Marine’s family.

Josh Wiggins play’s Amell’s younger brother, Justin, who deals with his brother’s death by taking care of the dog. The dog is incredibly hostile at first, however. As one character explains in the trailer, “Animals can come down with post-traumatic stress the same as people can.”

But when a shady figure from the past emerges, Justin and Max must team up to prevent the man from tearing apart what is left of their family.

“Max” also stars Lauren Graham, Jay Hernandez, and Luke Kleintank. It opens in theaters June 26.
