1993 comedy has serious emotional side

Robin Williams was as adept at drama as he was comedy, newly unearthed deleted scenes from “Mrs. Doubtfire” show.

A YouTube user uploaded the footage, which shows Williams’ character Daniel dealing with the fallout after he is discovered posing as the titular British nanny.

In the first scene, Daniel arrives late for a spelling bee in which his daughter Lydia (Lisa Jakub) is competing. He ends up getting into an argument with his ex-wife Miranda (Sally Field), causing Lydia to lose.

In the next scene, Lydia asks him why he and Miranda can’t just pretend to be happy. He then tells her, “It’s a joy to be your father,” sending anyone with a heart running for the tissues.

Finally, Miranda and Daniel have it out over his posing as Mrs. Doubtfire while the kids listen from upstairs. As they argue, the kids come down and Lydia tells her parents that she hates them both.
