Robin Wright said that her former “House of Cards” co-star Kevin Spacey deserves a second chance, following the disgraced actor’s exile from Hollywood after numerous sexual assault accusations.
“I believe every human being has the ability to reform. Has the ability to reform,” said during an interview with Net-A-Porter‘s PorterEdit. “In that sense, second chances, or whatever you are going to call it – absolutely, I believe in that. It’s called growth.”
Spacey was fired from his Netflix series “House of Cards” and written out of the show’s upcoming final season. He was also replaced in the completed Ridley Scott film “All the Money in the World” by actor Christopher Plummer.
Eight employees filed sexual harassment claims with Netflix and “House of Cards” production company MRC last November, CNN reported at the time. One unnamed production assistant said he was assaulted after being assigned to drive Spacey to and from the set, and later told the outlet he was “cornered” by the actor in his trailer. In addition to misconduct on the show, Spacey was accused of making advances on Anthony Rapp, a Broadway and film actor, when the latter was underage.
The final season of “House of Cards,” which premieres Nov. 2, will center on Wright’s Claire Underwood. Wright added that she has yet to reach out to Spacey, saying that he’s waiting for Spacey to reach out “when he’s ready… I think that’s the way it should go.”
This is the second time Wright has spoken publicly about Spacey. In July, she told “Today” that she never saw any “red flags” surrounding Spacey. “Kevin and I knew each other between action and cut, and in between setups where we would giggle,” Wright said. “I didn’t really — I didn’t know the man. I knew the incredible craftsman that he is.”
