Role Model? Shanna Moakler is In Serious Denial

Oh, no she didn’t!

I tuned in to my regular radio talk show where the discussion was the recent

abdication of the director’s throne over at the Miss California pageant offices.

I was sure I had missed hearing Reese Witherspoon’s name instead of Shanna Moakler’s in the part of the good-bye speech mentioning a role model.

But my ears had not betrayed me.

I had heard the former beauty queen’s quote correctly, and I was in complete shock while picking up my kids at school.

Did Moakler really say, “I feel it's more important to be a role model for my children,” as she stepped down from her righteous post?

After refocusing my thoughts, I pondered the loss and concluded Moakler left me no option but to gush about how she would be a good youth role model; one we can easily emulate since she’s already on TV. Hollywood will surely place her front and center for our budding youth. Right?

Not in the land I live in. Not in my country. Not where I was raised. At least I hope not.

Far from becoming anyone else’s role model but to her own three kids, Moakler can certainly show how to become a pageant queen to her two daughters.

By age 17, the ex-Miss USA had participated in a couple of pageants, and by 26, she had appeared as a centerfold in Playboy. She was unmarried and already had a child when she posed for the shoot.

This is just the kind of thing we need to lead our young daughters by example; start by showing off your body on stage in a bikini, and reach your goal by taking it all off for a national publication.

Miss Moakler, don’t let the door hit you on the way out!

If the replacement for the Miss California office isn’t already determined, it would be great if those around the conference table, tossing around names and faces to represent the organization, could also throw a few qualified role-model names into the hat.

I don’t mean Victoria Secret-type role models. How about someone with more proven qualifications other than just looking good in a bathing suit?

Maybe neither Carrie Prejean nor Moakler’s names will be on the short list this time, but here’s a suggestion; perhaps Ivanka Trump could consider applying for the now-empty post Miss Moakler vacated.

Conviction, guts, brains AND beauty…what a refreshing pageant concept!
