“Solo” director Ron Howard is “seriously exploring” the possibility of more “Willow,” to follow up on his 1980s fantasy epic.

“We are seriously exploring it with Lucasfilm folks. Fingers crossed,” tweeted Howard.

It is not the first time he was talked about returning to the world of Willow.

“I don’t want to give away too much, but there is a little talk of ‘Willow,’” Howard told ComicBook.com in a recent interview. “We wouldn’t call it ‘Willow 2,’ I think it would focus a lot on Elora Danan, although Willow would have to be significantly involved.”

Howard added, “I thought about that movie a lot as I was working on ‘Solo’ because there are certain scenes, especially around some of the Madmartigan stuff, was reminiscent of a character with that kind of swagger and bravado. And also some of the humor around some of the action in Willow was something I inspired to get into ‘Solo.’”

The original “Willow” starred Warrick Davis as Willow, a reluctant farmer who had to protect a special baby from a tyrannical queen. Willow is joined by Madmartigan, a mercenary swordsman (played by Val Kilmer) who assists Willow in his quest. The film’s story was written and produced by George Lucas.

Spoiler alert, Davis makes a cameo in Howard’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” which opened in theaters Friday.
