Rooney Mara has to choose between real life and a secret affair in a new clip from Todd Haynes‘ “Carol.”
In the scene from the acclaimed new drama, Mara’s character, Therese, is having dinner with Cate Blanchett‘s Carol when an old friend interrupts to invite the younger woman to a party.
Based on the Patricia Highsmith novel “The Price of Salt,” “Carol” stars Blanchett as the eponymous socialite who is trapped in a marriage of convenience while living in 1950s New York.

But when she meets Therese, a young store clerk, the two form an immediate connection that threatens to tear their worlds apart.
The drama was directed by Todd Haynes (“Far From Heaven”) from Phyllis Nagy’s screenplay. The Weinstein Company release also stars Sarah Paulson, Kyle Chandler, Jake Lacy and Cory Michael Smith.

The film has been getting major awards attention, scoring five Golden Globe nominations earlier this month, including Best Picture – Drama, Best Director and Best Actress – Drama for both Blanchett and Mara.
