Hollywood came together in solidarity at Sunday’s Golden Globes to protest sexual misconduct by wearing head-to-toe black — but Rose McGowan called it “Hollywood fakery.”
Actress Asia Argento, herself a Harvey Weinstein accuser, tweeted at McGowan on Sunday: “No one should forget that you were the first one who broke the silence. Anyone who tries to diminish your work is a troll and an enemy of the movement. You gave me the courage to speak out. I am on your side until I die.”
McGowan responded, “And not one of those fancy people wearing black to honor our rapes would have lifted a finger had it not been so. I have no time for Hollywood fakery, but you I love, .@AsiaArgento #RoseArmy.”

Other notable names who have stood up against sexual harassment in Hollywood including Corey Feldman and Rosanna Arquette chimed in saying they hadn’t been invited to the Globes either.

In December, McGowan, a Weinstein accuser who has been at the forefront of the #MeToo movement and speaking out about harassment and abuse in the industry, previously slammed celebrities who wanted to wear black to the annual event.
“Actresses, like Meryl Streep, who happily worked for The Pig Monster, are wearing black @GoldenGlobes in a silent protest,” she said days before the awards gala, referring to Weinstein.
“YOUR SILENCE is THE problem,” McGowan added. “You’ll accept a fake award breathlessly & affect no real change. I despise your hypocrisy. Maybe you should all wear Marchesa,” referencing the fashion label of Weinstein’s estranged wife Georgina Chapman.
At the time, Streep released a statement, the Oscar winner saying she was “hurt to be attacked by” McGowan and reiterated that she didn’t know about Weinstein’s reputation.
Actresses — and many actors — at this year’s Golden Globes wore black to protest sexual assault, abuse and harassment in Hollywood, and to support those who have spoken out about these issues. The move comes after heavyweights like Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, Dustin Hoffman, Louis C.K., Morgan Spurlock, and many more of have been accused of sexual misconduct.
Ryan Seacrest, Kelly Clarkson, Allison Janney, Finn Wolfhard, Rachel Brosnahan, Streep, Michelle Williams and many more donned the color on the carpet.
