12:59 AM CDT UPDATE: Limbaugh is "resting comfortably after suffering chest pains," according to a statement on Limbaugh’s website.
Rush Limbaugh was rushed to a Honolulu hospital Wednesday afternoon after complaining of chest pains, a local TV station reported.
Hawaii’s KITV said paramedics responded to a 911 call from the Kahala Hotel at 2:41. The controversail conservative talk show host was sitting in a chair when paramedics arrived. He was taken to Queen’s Hospital and was in serious condition, the station reported.
According to TMZ.com, the Kahala’s staff took extreme measures to keep Limbaugh’s departure from the hotel out of public view. The website claimed a wing of the hotel was shut down and Limbaugh used an employee elevator to avoid being spotted.
For someone so often tied to controversy, it’s somehow not surprising that Limbaugh’s hospitalization caused some heated debate on the Internet. The social networking site Twitter, for example, was filled with tweets from users offering both prayers — and hopes for Limbaugh’s untimely demise.
"Is it wrong that I’m smiling?" one user wrote.
Added another: "I do hope Rush Limbaugh is saved by a black lesbian doctor with a questionable immigration status."
"Go directly to hell, Rush Limbaugh," said still another Twitterer.
The anti-Limbaugh tweets provoked a sharp response from other users. "I can’t believe Americans are that cold-hearted," one user wrote.
