The Weinstein Co. released the first trailer for Shane Salerno's documentary "Salinger" on Thursday.
The film about the elusive author of "The Catcher in the Rye" speaks to a private life that in many ways remains secretive to this day, including his service in a U.S. counter intelligence division during World War II. But the trailer does assure us — the man had demons.

After the incredible success of 1951's "Catcher," J.D. Salinger essentially disappeared. He stopped publishing in 1965, during the height of his success. But he did not stop writing. Those pages are locked in a vault somewhere.
The documentary features Martin Sheen, Edward Norton, Danny DeVito, John Cusack and Philip Seymour Hoffman, among others, speaking about Salinger's influence on themselves and the world around them. All told, there are interviews with 150 subjects, including the writer's friends, colleagues and members of his inner circle.
