‘Trump-Free Tuesday’ Offered by News Site, Twitter Reacts: ‘Extend It to a Week Please’

”One-day gimmick or first step toward national healing? Either way, nothing about That Guy on Tuesday, June 27,“ Salon tweets

It’s the six-months-to-Christmas miracle some readers have hoped for! The news site Salon announced Monday evening that it will offer a “Trump-free Tuesday” on June 27, when it will not publish President Trump’s name or picture for a full 24-hour period.

“We will not cover his outrageous Twitter utterances or deride his surrogates for whatever stupid things they may or may not say on television,” the website’s editorial team explained. It is unclear if by “surrogates,” Salon meant other White House personalities — such as Vice President Mike Pence or Press Secretary Sean Spicer — or members of the Trump family. Or all of the above.

Although it will refrain from airing news concerning Trump, Salon says it will still “publish stories on Tuesday that will mention other members of the executive branch and leading political figures of both parties.” Also, “[Readers] may encounter some artful references to ‘the White House’ or ‘the current administration,’ but we will steer away from that whenever possible.” There could be exceptions, but Salon says those exceptions are unlikely to occur.

When Twitter users learned about “Trump-free Tuesday,” many praised Salon. Others were doubtful that the site could pull it off. And others wished for an extended Trump-free period.

With “Trump-free Tuesday” only a few hours away, we’ll see how this one goes.
