Stop the presses: a critics group voted, and they didn't pick "The Social Network" as the year's best film.
Instead, the San Diego Film Critics Society went for "Winter's Bone," which also picked up two acting awards in what has to count as the most intriguing, individualistic group of critics' picks to date. Other unexpected choices included Best Actor to Colin Farrell for "Ondine," Best Score to Rachel Portman for "Never Let Me Go" and Best Original Screenplay to the British comedy "Four Lions."
Of course, with only 18 members, the group may be less affected by the typical homogenization that takes place when a larger number of voters cast ballots.
And have no fear, David Fincher juggernaut fans: the San Diegans were balanced out by the larger Toronto Film Critics Association, who opted for "The Social Network" just as virtually all of their predecessors had.
Toronto even took the Fincher love a step further than any other group, giving its Best Supporting Actor award to Armie Hammer, who played dual roles in the film.
